HISTORY AND PURPOSE: UNITED NATIONS
After the devastating and tragic events of World War 2 and the death of more than 6 million people around the world, we needed an organization where global peace can be made. So, on October 24th, 1945 51 countries signed a treaty in San Fransico in the United States.
The UN is aimed to contain peace between countries and nations especially during critical political situations where the UN Peace Forces were needed to be deployed. The UN is also aimed to improve the living standards of humans and maintain their rights with no exception of peace, gender, race, and age.
Currently, The UN has 6 goals to complete:
Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms. Goal 2: Zero Hunger. Goal 3: Health. Goal 4: Education. Goal 5: Gender equality and women's empowerment. Goal 6: Water and Sanitation.
UN DAY - HISTORY AND WHY IT IS CELEBRATED
UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. United Nations Day is celebrated to commemorate the day that 51 countries came together to promote peace throughout the world post World War II.
UN DAY 2019 THEME
The United Nations has declared climate change the defining issue of our time. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has repeatedly called on us all to be leaders in the fight against climate change. We agree that it's time we all commit to immediate climate action. That's why our theme for UN Day 2019 is “Our Planet.
Well Now, How can we celebrate UN Day 2019; Decorate your school, dorm, or student union building in blue and white to promote UN awareness. Collaborate with international student organizations on a fashion show involving countries and national dress of nations around the world. The options you do are countless, anything you do is highly appreciated.
